One of the best times of the year to be in Paris is definitely the Fall. You get sunny days, rainy evenings, fresh nights and beautiful colors all over the city.

Korean Food, Chapter I

Korean Food aka K-Food has become more and more popular everytime in Mexico City and it is not only good but also very inexpensive and quite exotic. As a chef/cook, if you like to experiment, Korean Food is a good way to do so.

There is a place in the City known as Korea Town, where you can find lots of Korean restaurants as well as a few stores with Korean products, where you can buy all the necessary things to cook a perfect Korean meal.

The other day, my sister Gichef made some Doenjang Jjigae (soy bean paste stew) as well as some Crunchy Tteok (rice cake) for dessert. She decided to make a side of rice to make it more traditional and accompany the whole thing with a bit of Kimchi. All of these, rounded up with a glass of Soju.

So, this is the third year I am Blogging about my Photography over here. I have to admit, at the beginning, I didn't really blog much; perhaps for a lack of time, enthusiasm about blogging, mere laziness or I simply did not shoot enough.

Now I think I've got rid of all of that, I not always have the time, but I certainly try to make it, I am totally enthusiastic about blogging, and I am not so lazy anymore when it comes to Photography and even though I may not shoot as much as I'd like to, I sure try to keep my shutter being pushed for as many times as possible.

Something I really like about this Blog is that you can actually see the progress (I'd hope) on my Photography skills and the experience I've gained over time, I mean, I am not perfect yet, but I do believe I've improved -or so I'd like to think.

If you wanna see what I'm talking about, you can start over here and keep reading/browsing though photographs until you get to the present day, then you'll hopefully see what I mean.

On top of the 3-year-Anniversary of this Blog (which was exactly last January 5th), it is also a brand new year, oh yes, 2012 is already here, so we definitely needed a new design. It didn't really change much as I tried to keep it simple, but I sure hope you like it.

Now, based on the new header, you can assume I will still post about my Photography work, but it also means now I have narrowed it a bit to Travel and Food Photography, which are two things I truly love. The Travel has been a passion of mine for quite a bit now and the Food, well, my sister is a Chef and she is really passionate about food, so I guess it turned out to be contagious.

I believe food is an important part of a culture and, sometimes, a culture can actually be defined by their food. So here you will find Photographs of Food, Travel and the occasional Portrait, but most of all, you will find photographs of cultures, my own and as many as me and my lens encounter along the way.

Lemon Chicken with Fine Herbs

And continuing with the Food Photography topic we´ve been on lately, today I bring to you photographs of something really delicious and, actually, quite simple to prepare: Lemon Chicken with Fine Herbs.

As usual, you may find the recipe on cooking websites or over at Gichef's Blog; but here, you can check out the photographs I shot, both, before the chicken was cooked and after.

Personally, I believe the Fine Herbs give the Lemon Chicken dish a whole new look and, even, kind of a fine look. You can easily cook this to entertain at diner parties and appear as an amazing cook and host.

Christmas Cupcakes

This year, my sister has been baking a lot as we are spending most of our time home and well, you gotta kill the boredom somehow, right? One of the things she has baked more often are cupcakes, with many different recipes, hence, many, many variants of them in both, flavor and looks.

For this season, she decided to bake some cupcakes for her friends as Christmas presents; needless to say, they were quite popular, and delicious of course, but also, very pretty looking. This time, chocolate was the cake flavor for all of them and, as for the frosting goes, for some of them, she tried some simple icing; some butter and some chocolate. For some others, she tried with some fondant, which was cool because she was able to add some writing and little drawings in some of them in order to personalize them and make them an even nicer present.

One of the coolest things about cupcakes, is that you can get a thousand combinations to play around with the cake flavor and the frosting/icing/topping, so you can get many original variations for each special occasion or just for fun.

In the end, all of the effort was worth it and the cupcakes ended up looking (and tasting!) amazing! French Macarons: Attempt 1

Once you have tried French Macarons (the Parisian ones, the real deal) is kind of hard not to be obsessed about them, especially if you're into French Patisserie. My personal favorites, although probably not as worldly famous as the Pierre Hermé ones, are the ones from Huré, which slogan is "Createur de Plaisir"...and OMG, aren't they real pleasure creators! But well, we're only focusing on Macarons today.

So, me and my sister are totally obsessed about them, so much we decided to try to make our own coz, you know, you cannot be traveling to Paris everytime you feel like having macarons!

We went through a ton of recipes and watched many, many videos, after which, we almost felt like it was too easy to make them...wrong! It seems way easier than it really is, however, for our first attempt, I don't think it was THAT bad...I mean, it could have been worse.

Le Marche au Paris

While in Paris, one of the most wonderful things to do is to go shopping, of course, although this time, I am talking about a different kind of shopping, I'm talking about shopping at the local street markets more commonly known as Les Marches.

The feeling of shopping at a Marche can't compare to the feeling of shopping at the super market -which is pretty much non-existent. Parisian Marches is what people in the US know as "Farmer's Markets". Not only you're buying fresh products but you're getting really good quality which, usually, come with a good price as well. Let's say if you were a Chef or had a restaurant, this would be the place to buy the good stuff.

Just like a super market, at a Marche you can find everything you need going from fresh fruits and vegetables, to meat, chicken and fish, including some really good cheese, wine, spices, flowers and whatnot.

Marches in Paris are normally set up one or two days a week and there are a couple in each neighborhood, so you can be sure to catch yours once or twice a week and get supplies for the whole week.

On Sundays (or weekends) a good option to buy is roast chicken, as it quite fresh and tasty, so not the same and baking it in the oven yourself -I totally recommend it!

Not only will you get a good shopping done, but you can also enjoy the nice and unique things of a French Market, such as live music right in the middle of it -always nice to put you in a good mood while getting the "super" done.

One of the most interesting things you can find there, is a wide variety of spices and seeds and stuff like that. Very handy if you like to mix it up in the kitchen!

And well, my absolute favorite part about all this is, of course, the cheese! OMG, the variety and prices you can get for some really good, fresh, tasty cheese! J'adore! You can get cheese to make many different dishes, to go with some other or simply to enjoy it after a meal with some wine and a baguette, just like any Parisian would. Oh, and you can also find some nice wines for a very good deal, so watch out for it and be ready to spend some money and spend it good!

Intro to Food Photography: Beef Skewers

As most of you know, most of my previous work as a Photographer has been on fields such as Architecture, Portrait, Music Photography, Travel and a couple of others but, lately, my eye has been drawn to Food Photography, and well, it is only natural having a Chef sister who not only cooks things that taste amazingly but who also makes things look so awesome you pretty much drool in front of them. I've been shooting some of the things she cooks for some time now but merely cause I love shooting anything and everything, until sometime ago that I realized Food is a subject that actually inspires me to shoot and I feel happy when I do it. So naturally, I wanna do it more often and more "formally", if you will. I wanna practice as much as I can since it's a subject field I'd like to master eventually.

Today, I am posting what I like to call "My Official Introduction to Food Photography", and I such introduction is with something that looks pretty good and, let me tell you, tasted just as good: Beef Skewers!

Now, I am not a Chef but a Photographer so please do not expect me to share recipes with you as I am not good at that, so rather, I'll just talk a bit about the process and the photographs.

You start with some tomato, green and red pepper, and onions which make for a very Mexican dish.

Once everything is chopped, including the beef, get some toothpicks and start inserting everything into them; combining them in a way they make sort of a beautiful color flag.

You want to get something like this in every toothpick.

Have a frying pan with a little cooking oil on ready at a low flame and, once you have a batch of skewers ready, put them on the frying pan carefully to make sure they don't touch each other to avoid them from sticking one to another.

When you see them getting a nice brownish color, that means they're cooked on the lower side and it's time to turn them over. You see how good they look on the already cooked side?

You need to be checking on them to make sure they don't burn out but they do get the right color and degree of doneness.

This is what you want it to look like: juicy, brownish and seemingly rich.

Once you are done cooking all of the skewers, you put them all together on a tray.

However, if you're not convinced with just laying them over the tray, you can always step it up and make a bit of a nicer presentation by adding a bed of lettuce or anything else that you think will bring up the dish's look.

Remember, love at first sight works with food, too!

I mean, can you honestly tell me you're not drooling right now just by looking at this juicy, fresh and delish-looking skewers?

A yummy salad is always a good idea to go with pretty much any dish; you can mix it up a bit and add some of the green and red pepper you had left from the skewers and cut it in a creative way not to have a "boring" salad by your dish.

Add any dressing of your preference to spice it up a bit and the result will be a salad you can't resist!

Besides having a dressing for the salad, it is always good to have some dressing for the main dish, in this case, the beef skewers. Being beef makes it easier to accompany it with a wide variety of dressings so everybody can pick their favorite and that way you can't go wrong!

So, you finally have your delicious skewers very well presented and accompanied by a nice dressing, in this case, Green Pepper dressing which makes it an interesting combination; and, a side of fresh salad and voilá, you have a delicious dish you simply cannot resist! Bon appétit!

A couple of weeks back, I went -for the first time ever- to see some Horse Racing at the Hipódromo de las Américas in Mexico City. I am not really into horses -or animals, or racing or any of that for that matter- but I thought it was something new for me to shoot and I can never turn own a new subject, coz you never know how much you're gonna like it or how good you're gonna be at it or how inspiring it can turn out to be, you can always be nicely surprised and even though I didn't love it -to be quite honest-, I think it was alright.

Mexican Wrestling aka Lucha Libre (Part I)

Just a couple of weeks ago I had the chance something that I had never shot before but I was dying to: Mexican Wrestling! As you may know, it is a very popular "sport" -if you will- in Mexico, which has recently gained a lot of popularity all over the world.

Mexican Wrestling aka Lucha Libre is well known for the colorful masks, the quick sequences of holds and maneuvers, as well as the "high-flying" maneuvers, which are amazingly done by many wrestlers which, in consequence, makes it all more exciting and fun!

The wearing of masks has developed special significance, and matches are sometimes contested in which the loser must permanently remove his mask, which is a gamble with a high degree of weight attached; it is believed that when a wrestler loses his mask, he loses it all.

Personally, I have never been to the Arena México (the main wrestling venue in Mexico) and I had a great time shooting though at the beginning it wasn't easy due to all the moves I mentioned before, you have to be very quick and adjust your timing to the wrestlers', which I did after the first few shots; on ships, I used to be a fast shooter, turns out...I still am. In general, I am very happy with the results as the timing was good enough to catch a lot of those "flying" maneuvers, which in photographs is even better because it looks as if you froze them up in the air. Last Saturday June 25th, Mexico City´s 33th Gay Pride Parade took place. The monument to the Angel de la Independencia was the departure point for thousands of Gays, Lesbians, Transsexuals, Drag-queens and such, the place of arrival, the main square in Town: The Zócalo.

All these people marched year after year showing everyone how proud they are to be what they are and also, to raise awareness of the importance of being a tolerant, comprehensive and supportive as a society. A lot of non homosexual people also march along to show their support and let the rest of the people know the world can be a much better place of we all respect each other and each others' preferences.

Many people was also protesting against Hate Crime committed towards homosexuals as they are tired of being the target of such just because they have different preferences.

As weird as it may sound to a lot of you, there's still a lot of people -not only in Mexico, but all over the world- very narrow minded and with a very retrograde vision of how things are supposed to be and they're absolutely against everything that's different from what they know and from what they call "normal"; it is kind of sad, yes, but we all can contribute to change this by spreading the word that we're all equal individuals with different ideas, races, religions, nationalities and sexual preferences and we all have the same rights as obligations as World Citizens.

If you know me, you would know that I am not very "pro-animal" in life, unlike most of the people who can't help melting for every single animal they see. For me, animals are okay...as long as they're away from me. However, that does not mean I don't think they're pretty enough to shoot them; in fact, I think the Animal Kingdom was very much missing in my portfolio.

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to go with my mom to Africam Safari, a kind of open Zoo near Puebla, Mexico; which is pretty much like an authentic safari...except a bit too domestic maybe, still, quite cool I must admit.

So, I had the chance to shoot a lot of different species and find their "good side", some are prettier than other and, a few of them, are actually quite the opposite. Here, I present to you the wide range of animals I shot that sunny and super hot day.

NYON is a Mexican band who plays a pretty much brand new genre called "New Pop", which basically is Pop very well done and not necessarily cheesy and bad like perhaps we've been used to. NYON is four guys: Oscar (Lead Singer), Isaac (Guitar), Rodrigo (Guitar) and Juns (Drums), they're all very talented and they sure know how to rock it when it comes to New Pop.

With a lot of attitude but, at the same time, very chilled and cool NYON played a gig at the very important venue "Pasagüero" in Downtown Mexico City last week. This is only the beginning for this band, so watch out for them as they might surprise you with a little something called 'Talent'!

There are so many ways to look at Light; to many, it is a huge and important concept, to others is something that helps bring life and, to many others...it's just a simple thing that helps us see clearer. While for some Light is simply a metaphor to a major concept, I wanted to take that particular metaphoric concept and play a little bit with both -the light and the concept itself-, showing how the light that exists to guide us through our way goes through constant changes and sometimes it all seems too dark because we cannot see the full light, instead, all we can see is some Traces of Light.

Llenos de talento y energía, The Beagles tocaron por más de dos horas llenando de buena música y muy buena vibra el 333 Café y dejando a todos los asitentes más que satisfechos con su presentación.

Ballerinas

Last month, I went to shoot a Ballet Studio that belongs to a friend of mine. Besides being the owner, she's the teacher as she is a professional dancer. The class I shot was Ballet 1, which -as you will see- is for little girls only. Some of them are very graceful and you can totally see the potential in them, some of them aren't as gracious but they were good on the camera; either way, shooting these little girls expressing themselves through something as beautiful as ballet was very inspiring for me, so perhaps I will go back and shoot some more with a bit more of time and dedication.

In a City where there's always people to meet, places to be and things to do it's hard sometimes to stop and take a look at what's around, especially because "it is there all the time", so we take it for granted and not give it a chance to be looked at with a "second look", with a different perspective, to surprise us, to let us know even though it may not seem like it, things do change, perhaps at a very low rate of speed, but they do and it's just due to this rush we live in all big cities that we don't even notice.

As a little Christmas present, I decided to give the Blog a new look; first, because I was already bored with the other one and second, because I started to feel like it was a bit dark, so I wanted to make it not only "brighter" but also simpler...it is basically the same thing, except with a bit of a color change that I think comes in nicely with the new year, although I am not sure I will maintain it permanently, as a better design may come along, I'm sure it will...as soon as I get inspired. In the meantime, I leave you the new Diana Verdin Photography design.

One of my absolute favorite arrondissements in Paris is Montmartre, of course, being the charming place it is. For me, it has everything a neighborhood should have: art, interesting people, a good Café, amazing architecture and amazing sights! Whenever I'm there I just feel inspired by everything that surrounds me and, if you've ever been there, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Things like Basilique du Sacré-Cœur , the Cafe des 2 Moulins, the Moulin Rouge and one of the most amazing views of Paris, make Montmartre one of the places in the world you can't miss and you certainly wouldn't want to.

As you may know, music is a very important part of my life and being close to it -in any kind of way- has always inspired me. I believe I have a pretty wide taste in music, I love everything from Indy/Alternative Rock to the good old Classical music, going through Classic Rock, Opera, Jazz and so many more genres in between. So, when during my last trip to Paris I had the chance to be so close to music, it being a very "musical" city, I was absolutely delighted.

When in Paris, you hear (particularly, live) music everywhere; on the streets, on the metro, at the Opera and, I am lucky enough to have friends who, on top on being amazing people, are talented enough to play music! I truly appreciate them sharing their talent with me. And well, while my ears were being delighted by the wonderful music, I couldn't let my eyes be left out (of course), so I did some shots so that whenever I take a look at them, I will be able to hear that music and relive that experience all over again--ah, the magic of the human brain!

Serie: Portraits de Matin - Le Profeseur Le Mort

François Mafille, aka Professeur Le Mort, a good friend of mine, was kind enough to pose for me and my camera on a rainy but quite lovely morning at his apartment in Paris. People like him is one of the reasons I love doing Portraits; though your lens, you can always get more from them. What I mean is, you may have a concept of a person but when you're working with them you realize there's much more to them than you think, like, if you think they're "nice and cheerful", they might surprise you as you also find them to be nostalgic, pondering, intellectual and so many more things. There's so much you can tell about a person with one simple portrait.

Street Art has got to be one of the most ancient jobs in the world and, perhaps, one of the most unappreciated ones as well. This type of work requires not only a lot of effort and consistency but also a lot of talent -though sometimes some street artists aren't really talented-, as people wouldn't just stop by and waste their time watching a pointless, boring show. I've always found Street Artists interesting somehow, maybe it's the fact that they seem kind of hard to figure out as they always seem to be hiding behind the smile they have to put on everyday while pleasing their audience...I don't know.

Some Street Artists get help from some props, others from weird/fabulous/interesting outfits, some from animals and some others just from their raw talent or good music; this last one was the case of this Street Artist in Paris, he was playing great music while working and even though he wasn't that talented (to be honest), that got the attention of lots of people.

La semana pasada tuve la necesidad de hacer un viaje relámpago a la Ciudad de Puebla, en México. La Capital de Puebla es conocida como Puebla de los Angeles, por que según cuenta una leyenda fue trazada por ángeles. Volver a Puebla fue un tanto extraño para mi pues es donde pasé gran parte de mi infancia temprana y, aunque fue hace ya mucho tiempo, al regresar al lugar de inmediato comenzó a surgir en mi cabeza una serie de recuerdos de aquellos días cuando asistía al Kinder y a clases de Tae Kwon Do por las tardes, aquellos días soleados llenos de juegos y buenos recuerdos. A pesar de haber vivido ahí una infancia feliz, ahora Puebla es un lugar de mi completo desagrado por varias razones, entre ellas su gente y su acento, su actitud y su eterno afán de querer siempre ser como el DF sin lograr acercarse si quiera un poco, sin mencionar el absoluto sentimiento de desagrado que sienten todos los Poblanos por los Defeños, al igual que la mayoría de los Provincianos en México.

De cualquier manera, sentí la necesidad de documentar ese viaje como lo hago con todos mis viajes, así que he aquí el resultado de dicha documentación, hecha por cierto con mi Nikon D80 (y un objetivo 18-70mm) que hace mucho no usaba y que estoy muy contenta de haber retomado de tal abandono provocado por mi Nikon D700.

Ya sea en México, Francia, Argentina, España, Inglaterra o muchos otros países, la pasión por el Futbol parece no tener fin; antes, durante y después de la Copa Mundial de Futbol los comunmente llamados "Pamboleros" demuestran su fanatismo por este deporte en sus casas, en campos deportivos, parques, calles...en fin, donde haya un balón, ahí estarán. Prueba de ello es este "Pambolero" haciendo piruetas y acrobacias cerca de la Basilique du Sacré-Cœur en Montmartre, Paris.

Siempre he encontrado interesante lo diferente que puede lucir el cielo en distintas partes del mundo; aparentemente, todos vivimos bajo el mismo cielo, pero basada en lo que he podido ver, me parece que estoy en desacuerdo con tal declaracion. Aunque todos muy distintos uno del otro, la mayoría son incríbles y los de Paris, por supuesto, no son la excepción.

Londres, como muchas grandes Ciudades del Mundo, tiene una extensa colección de Arte que admirar dentro de sus límites; arte para todo tipo de personas y gustos: Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo, Clásico, Barroco, Visual...en fin, la lista es casi tan larga como la de lugares donde se expone, llámense Museos, Galerías, Plazas, la misma calle, etc.

Sobra decir que el Arte es una de las cosas que más me gusta de Londres pues cuenta con 2 de los Museos más importantes del mundo como lo son el Tate Modern y el British Museum--este último cuenta con una vasta e impresionante colección de arte de casi todas las culturas del mundo!

En fin, he aquí una pequeña muestra de lo que Londres y sus Museos tienen que ofrecer al público que gusta de disfrutar el mundo del arte.

Por fin, el verano teminó y el momento de emprender mi nueva aventura llegó, así es, es tiempo de comenzar una nueva experiencia de vida, esta vez, la Ciudad de Londres, Inglaterra fue el lugar elegido para comenzar una nueva vida, llena (como todo en un principio) de incertidumbre, miedos, nervios, dudas, pero sobre todo, emoción, ansias y esperanza; esperanza en que todo resultará de la mejor manera posible como siempre lo ha sido.

Por el momento, digo hasta luego a México que tanto extrañare pero, sobre todo, a mi Ciudad, mi DF que tanto amo y con quien en definitiva comparto una relación de amor/odio que, seguramente, muchos de ustedes también lo hacen. Mientras tanto, saludo a Londres esperando abrir un nuevo ciclo lleno de cosas increíbles!

Las Ultimas Rondas por la Ciudad

En mis últimos días por la Ciudad, decidí recorrer la mayor cantidad de lugares posibles, tal vez en un esfuerzo por "impregnarme" de ella y grabar en mi, ligeramente fotográfica, memoria la forma en que lucía, en que olía, en que se movía y en que su gente se desenvolvía en ella. Aunque sé bien que recorridos como este no son imperativos, pues absolutamente nada en este mundo podría hacerme olvidar el aspecto de mi Ciudad; fue más bien algo que hice por mero gusto.

La sesión "Un Día en el Bosque" es el resultado de una tarde explorando la ciudad y sus lugares, si no recónditos, poco comunes; sus áreas verdes que aunque tal vez difícil de creer, se encuentran a unos pasos del Centro y al alcance de todos.

Tampoco me gustaría decir que estos son rincones inexplorados pues en verdad no lo son, pero si son lugares un tanto complicados de visualizar tan en las entrañas de una ciudad como lo es la Ciudad de México.

Los Carritos de Reforma (Serie)

Un dia, caminando por (Avenida) Reforma, noté que además de los vehículos normales que circulan por ahí, había una serie de diversos mini-vehículos (carritos), muy cercano uno del otro, principalmente en el Camellón; aunque no usados para transporte precisamente, si no para la vendimia o el mantenimiento de las calles. El uso de estos es ya una práctica común en la Ciudad, además de ser lo que sostiene muchos hogares Mexicanos.

En una ciudad tan increible como lo es la Ciudad de Mexico, basta con salir a caminar (casi por cualquier lugar) para encontrarse con vistas maravillosas y paisajes llenos de colores y contrastes intensos que capturan la atencion de cualquiera. Cada una de las Cuatro Estaciones dan a la Ciudad un look distinto y muy particular, y el de el Verano lluvioso y fresco es uno de mis favoritos.

Hace algunos dias acompanhe a mi hermana al Pabellon Coreano ubicado en la Zona Poniente de la Ciudad, ella tenia un articulo que escribir y yo me ofreci a tomar las fotos. El Pabellon Coreano se encuentra dentro del Parque de la Tercera Edad, razon por la cual no nos permitieron el acceso, honestamente me parece algo sin sentido pues aunque, por un lado, esta bien que haya espacios dedicados a la gente de la 3a. edad en el DF, no me parece que nieguen la entrada a alguien a un espacio que, finalmente, es publico solo por cuestiones de edad.

Pues me las arregle como pude y desde afuera de las rejas tome algunas fotos para que la visita no fuera en vano. Desde afuera solo se ven un par de Pagodas, asi que tampoco habia mucho que fotografiar desde tal angulo.

Siempre tendre Paris...

Una de las mas gratas sorpresas en mi vida ha sido Paris, esta ciudad INCREIBLE y llena de colores, de sabores, de olores, de arte, de inpiracion...en fin, de vida. No era el punto principal de mi visita al Viejo Continente, era solo "un destino mas" y sin esperarlo, quede enamorada de ella.

En verdad no encuentro una razon para que a alguien no le guste Paris...debe existir, estoy segura, pero por ahora prefiero quedarme con lo bueno. Y para recordar un poco de aquellos dias de Noviembre en que caminaba por sus calles mojadas, he aqui algunas fotos de uno de los mejores viajes de mi vida.

Otro de los nuevos puertos que visito con mi nuevo barco (Adventure of the Seas) es St. Croix, una de las Islas Virgenes de Estados Unidos. Saint Croix es lindo, tiene cielos increibles ya sean soleados o nublados y playas con aguas muy claras, en general, es un lugar muy agradable a la vista, aunque en extremo caluroso.
