Mx City Photo Tour: Mercados (Part I)

A couple of weeks ago, I gave my very first (and official) Photo Tour around Mexico City with the theme "Mexican Mercados: Hidden Treasures", because they truly are and, actually doing this first tour made me realize they're not that just for the tourists and foreigners living in Mexico, but also for us Mexicans as they're places full of color, smells, people, food, culture, tradition, and...life!

In Mexico, people usually go to the Mercado just as if they we were going to the super market: they we go, buy and leave; they we don't really stop to appreciate all those wonderful things surrounding them us as soon as we enter. Mercados are real magical places not to be missed, so next time you go, make sure you take some time to appreciate the wonders you get to see.

Fruit Tart

Remember the previous fruit shoot? Well, this is what became of that fruit...a delicious tart! This was shot with window light, defused by opaque glass to avoid over-glare. Regarding the lenses, two were used: the Nikkor 28-70mm and the Nikkor 50-1.8mm, both on the Full Frame Nikon D700.

Fresh Market Fruit

The lighting for this shoot (as for most of my shoots) was natural. I put the fruit near the a window as it was sunny outside; the results of doing so are usually quite beautiful as you can see, particularly in the strawberries, where you can see the light bouncing on them and reflecting such pretty brightness.

The only prop used here was the bowl, in which Gisela put the fruit after buying it fresh from the Market. We are actually quite lucky here in Mexico as we don't need to have Farmer's Markets (like in the US) or weekly Street Markets (like in Paris) to acquire fresh products, as the Mercados here run 7 days week year around -except maybe for the holidays, but otherwise, you have access to a market any day you like.

Coming soon, not only the post with the Fruit Tart made with this wonderful fruit but also, a trip to a Mexican Market with photos included, of course! Make sure you come back for that as I'm sure you will find it interesting.
